Here, I will introduce how to sharpen the sword (iron brush) of [Teramachi store Yodaime owner “Ryuzen”].
If you're sculpting or slipping when you're carving a stone, it may be because your sword (iron brush) is dead. Look at it as it is a source of failure or injury.
Of course, sharpening also requires practice. If you can grind it properly, it will be said that you are one person as a craftsman. We think that it is difficult, but please try by all means. Below is my sharpening method. Therefore, I hope that you will find a way to sharpen it yourself.
◆ First of all, please check what happens when you sharpen a sword (iron brush).
From the left of the photo, "Before sharpening", "Thickened with rough sand", and "Thickened with fine sand" are shown. If you look at the brightness of the blade, the difference is obvious. I always finish polishing, but when carving stone with seal engraving etc., it is possible to carve enough with only rough grinding.
ANext, I will introduce grinding stones.
● Upper left of the photo [Rough oil oilstone]
The one with moderate hardness is good. We do not recommend using a very soft whetstone because the blade is small and the force is applied to one point and the whetstone will be dented.
● Photo upper right "finish whetstone"
As for the finish whet, it is good if it is natural, but the natural one is very expensive. It is the inkstone of Hakei. If you look for it, there are imported ones and ceramic ones, but there seems to be no better than natural ones made in Japan. You may not need it if you only sharpen an iron brush.
● Bottom left of the photo "Rubber stopper (used under the grindstone)"
If you go to a shop that sells do-it-yourself supplies, you sell it. If not, a wet rag etc. is fine. In short, it is OK if you can avoid slipping.
● Photo lower right [diamond whetstone]
Industrial diamond is processed on the surface. A handy tool for sharpening hard blades. No special requirements. The price is about 10,000 yen, but it does not decrease, so it may be advantageous in the long run.
Once the B tools are ready, place the oil stone on the stopper and fix it.
Then, apply oil to the grindstone and spread it with your finger. This is enough with cheap sewing machine oil.
C We will finally sharpen.
Lightly apply an iron brush to the surface of the whetstone, and lightly press it from above with your left index finger. Push from the front as it is, go to the top and lower it to the bottom. This is a repetition of this. It should be as large and light as possible, and move it securely.
If you only sharpen in a fixed place, the whetstone will be recessed only there, so use the entire surface as much as possible. No speed or power is needed. Use your power as evenly as possible.
Grind one side at a time. Instead of sharpening only one side at a time, turn it over frequently. You should decide the number of times for each side. Try to keep the number as small as possible (about 5 to 10 times). If you can, please increase the number of times. Put your finger on the corner of the sword and sharpen it. However, be careful not to grind more than necessary.
Also, the surface of the blade must be straight. If it becomes round, the carving angle will change when carving, so it is useless. We call that kind of clam. To be honest, sharpening a sword (iron brush) is very difficult.
However, if you carve it with a sharpened iron brush, you will be able to carve your current difficulties like lies. Please do your best to sharpen and experience the sense of carving.
DFinally finish.
Finishing has a slightly smoother feel than roughing. The sharpening method is the same as that for rough grinding. However, sharpen more carefully than when roughing because it is soft.
The point of sharpening is to apply force evenly without putting too much effort.
When finishing is applied, the surface of the blade becomes really shiny and the edge becomes even sharper.
However, as mentioned above, finishing whetstones are more expensive than rough whetstones. It seems to do.
